Question:
How may I set up redundant license servers for CST Studio Suite?
Answer:
If you own a floating license, it is possible to use three machines redundantly as license servers in order to make the license service more robust.
The following information is needed before CST can generate a redundant license file:
- Hostname of each of the three servers
- Order of these servers
- MAC-ID of each server
The license servers are identified as either primary [m], secondary, or tertiary. One license server is also designated as the master [m] and is responsible for:
- Serving licenses to FlexEnabled applications
- Recording information into the debug log
- Recording information into the report log
If the master fails, then the secondary license server becomes the master.
Sample license file:
SERVER <host_1 /> <mac-id_1 /> 27000 PRIMARY_IS_MASTERSERVER <host_2 /> <mac-id_2 /> 27000 SERVER <host_3 /> <mac-id_3 /> 27000
Once you have received the license, you need to install the CST License Manager on all these redundant machines using the single license file that has been provided.
Finally, when starting CST DESIGN ENVIRONMENT / CST STUDIO SUITE on a client you will be asked for the license details. Please set the type to "floating" and enter all three machine names as the names of the license servers, using the checkbox "Additional Servers" (enter the name of each server in the designated field, plus port numbers if not automatic).
For more information about setting up a redundant license server configuration, please refer to the License Administration Guide found in the "License Manager" folder of your CST installation.
