QA00000061038_Obtaining SIMULIA CST Site ID and MAC ID

Question:
How do I get my site ID and MAC ID?

Answer:
The MAC address of a computer (which can be used as a host ID for FlexLM licenses) can be printed out using the following commands:

On Windows:
  1. Open a terminal (cmd) and enter the command "getmac /v" (alternatively "ipconfig /all").
  2. Search for an output section labeled "Ethernet" or "Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection" which refers to the network interface card of the computer. The entry "Physical Address" shows the MAC address of the computer.

On Linux:
  1. Enter the command /sbin/ifconfig in a terminal window.
  2. Typically, there will be a section labeled "ethX" (Link encap: Ethernet) which refers to the network interface card of the computer. In this section, the entry "HWaddr" shows the MAC address of the computer.

The macro "Get customer ID and host ID"  found in Macros → File can be used to show the site ID and host ID the license currently in use was issued for.
If CST Studio Suite is already installed, the command "lmutil lmhostid" can be used to display all host IDs of a computer that are currently valid for licensing. However, this can depend on your current network connection status (LAN, WiFi, VPN, etc.) and is therefore not recommended as a first information to generate a new license.

The lmutil program can be found in a subfolder of "<CST_INSTALLPATH>/License Manager".

NOTE: The MAC ID cannot be used for DSLS licenses. See here for more details about DSLS:
