QA00000063221_Policy for Running SIMULIA CST Studio Suite on 3rd Party Cloud Providers

Question:
What are the requirements for running CST Studio Suite jobs on external 3rd Party Cloud Providers such as AWS, Azure?  What are the licensing terms?

Answer:
Running SIMULIA CST Studio Suite on 3rd Party Cloud Providers
  1. This document specifically refers to using SIMULIA CST Studio Suite on 3rd Party Cloud Providers, such as Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google GCP.
  2. SIMULIA CST Studio Suite is also supported on the Dassault Systemes Cloud, which follows a different policy, not mentioned in this QA.
  3. This offering is not meant to replace the SIMULIA CST Studio Suite software installation on the desktop/workstation; i.e., a license with valid maintenance is a pre-requisite for using SIMULIA CST Studio Suite in the HPC cloud.
  4. Cloud computing hardware types are referred to as “instances”. For example the AWS C5 instance contains the Intel Xeon Platinum (Skylake) processor and the AWS P3 instance contains NVIDIA Tesla V100 GPUs.
  5. The SIMULIA CST Studio Suite software must be installed and configured on each hardware type either directly or with the help of a cloud hosting partner such as UberCloud. This is a pre-requisite before a simulation can be run.
  6. Hardware performance is often verified or demonstrated via a POC (proof of concept) of testing SIMULIA CST Stuido Suite on the Cloud, similar to a software benchmark. A short term SIMULIA CST Studio Suite license can be provided for the POC. The customer is responsible for paying the Cloud provider for hardware resources used during the POC.
  7. Cloud HPC is not necessarily faster or cheaper than on-premise hardware. Cloud HPC is best for peak demand, multiple/parallel simulations, matching simulation solvers to the best architecture and for companies who wish to maintain a “zero IT” footprint.
  8. SIMULIA CST Studio Suite license for Cloud
    1. Only “Bring Your Own License” (BYOL) option is supported. Customer must use their existing license (which must be a network license). The SIMULIA CST Studio Suite license must be accessible by the HPC resource provider; this is typically achieved by using a VPN connection from the Cloud provider to the customer site, through the company firewall.
    2. The SIMULIA CST Studio Suite license must contain the required number of Acceleration Tokens to support running jobs on the Cloud
    3. On demand or pay-as-you-go licensing on the Cloud is not supported
