Question:
What are the different ways on installing CST Studio Suite service packs (patch files)?
Answer:
Ensuring that your CST Studio Suite software is up-to-date is crucial for avoiding known issues and benefiting from the latest features. We highly recommend using the latest version of CST to thoroughly test various scenarios, especially if you encounter any software issues and plan to report them to CST support.
CST provides various way of updating your software to the latest service pack (patch). Such as:
- Automatic Software Updates
- CST Update Manager GUI tool
- CST Update Manager Command line tool
- Automatic updates using CST DC (applicable only for CST Distributed Computing cluster setup)
1. Automatic Software Updates:
This is a simple way of updating to the CST service pack. When CST Studio Suite GUI is started, the software automatically checks for updates and pops-up a message to confirm if patch needs to be installed. This gives user an option to either update to the service pack or skip the update.
For more information, check the following section of the CST online help from your current CST installation.

2. CST Update Manager GUI tool:
This tool allows you to manage CST software updates. This tool can be launched from:
- the Windows start menu (Windows Start > CST Studio Suite 20##> CST Update Manager), where CST 20## indicates version like CST 2024, CST 2023.
or
- from the CST installation folder by running the "AutoUpdateGUI_AMD64.exe" available in <CST_WindowsInstallPath>\AMD64 folder in Windows and by running <CST_LinuxInstallPath>/AutoUpdateGUI in Linux.
For more information about CST Update Manager, please check the following section of the CST online help from your current CST installation.

3. CST Update Manager Command line tool:
If you have a GUI available with the machine, then it is very easy and convenient to update the CST using the CST Update Manager GUI tool as explained in #2 above.
But, if you do not have GUI available with the machine then, yes, it is still possible to update CST using a CST Update Manager's Command line tool. This tool is available in both Windows and Linux.
On Windows:
CST Update Manager Command line tool is available at <CST_WindowsInstallPath>\AMD64\AutoUpdate_AMD64.exe.
By default, this executable is available at “C:\Program Files (x86)\CST Studio Suite ####\AMD64”, (where #### is the actual CST version like 2023, 2022 etc.) if you have installed CST into a default directory. For the CST installation into a custom path check <CST_WindowsInstallPath>\AMD64\folder.
To run this tool and update the CST software, make sure to run this tool from an admin command prompt.
On Linux:
On the Linux machine, CST Update Manager Command line tool is available at <CST_LinuxInstallPath>/AutoUpdate.
By default, this executable is available at “/opt/cst/CST_Studio_Suite_####/”, (where #### is the actual CST version like 2023, 2022 etc.) if you have installed CST into a default directory. For the CST installation into a custom path check <CST_LinuxInstallPath> folder.
Please check output of '<CST_WindowsInstallPath>\AMD64\AutoUpdate_AMD64.exe -h or <CST_LinuxInstallPath>/AutoUpdate -h' in a console for available command line options of this tool.
4. Automatic updates using CST Distributed Computing (DC):
If you have CST Distributed Computing (DC setup) and looking to update all your DC Solver Servers with a CST service pack then this could be done using Automatic updates of CST DC.
