Question:
Teamed NIC (Network Interface Card) combines multiple NICs to increase uptime. This greatly enhances license reliability. Can I use teamed NIC to host my flexnet license?
Answer:
Teamed NIC offers in theory better uptime for licenses, and that the MAC address should stay static, but we have experienced prior cases where the MAC changes by 1 digit after system reboot, rendering the flexnet license file invalid since FlexLM can no longer find a matching MAC address the license was generated for. It is best avoid Teamed NIC configuration unless your IT team can ensure the MAC address stays static. The best way is still to use a MAC address based on physical hardware. An example of this is the MAC address tied to "Ethernet Adapter Ethernet" and avoid the ones that says "teamed" or "Microsoft Network Adapter Multiplexor" .
