Migrating Data to Updated Version of SOLIDWORKS

Migrating Data to Updated Version of SOLIDWORKS

Example: Transfer custom tapped hole size data from SOLIDWORKS 2019 to SOLIDWORKS 2025.

Process:
  1. Find the 2019 SOLIDWORKS Data folder

  2. Copy the entire folder as a backup

  3. Make a second copy (Copy the entire 2019 Toolbox folder twice: one copy is your safety backup, and the second copy is the 2025 migration copy), name it something like "SOLIDWORKS Data 2025 Migrated"
    • You should have an original folder, a 2019 BACKUP folder, and a 2025 Migrated folder before

doing anything else.

  1. Run ToolBox update:
    1. Close SOLIDWORKS
    2. Browse to: C:\Program Files\SOLIDWORKS Corp\SOLIDWORKS\Toolbox\data utilities
    3. Find: UpdateBrowserDatabase.exe
    4. Right-click it and choose: Run as admin
    5. In the Update Toolbox Database utility for Database to Update browse to the copied 2025 migration folder: C:\SOLIDWORKS Data 2025 Migrated\lang\English\swbrowser.sldedb
    6. Click update

  2. Point SOLIDWORKS 2025 to the upgraded copied folder
    1. Open SOLIDWORKS 2025
    2. Go to: Tools > Options > System Options > Hole Wizard/Toolbox
    3. Set the Toolbox folder location to: C:\SOLIDWORKS Data 2025 Migrated
      1. Select the top-level folder, such as C:\SOLIDWORKS Data 2025 Migrated. Do not select the swbrowser.sldedb file directly.

  3. Confirm the custom tapped holes show up in SOLIDWORKS 2025
