The SIMULIA Established products Abaqus, Isight, Tosca, and fe-safe all support both academic license types. Each of these programs use a parameter to control which license type is requested from the license server. An academic license permits use of an academic product solely for educational or public research purposes by a customer that has been identified as an academic institution or student.
The compatibility between Abaqus/CAE files created using academic and commercial licenses:
- Abaqus/CAE model databases created using a teaching license can be opened using a research license and vice versa.
- Abaqus/CAE model databases created using a teaching or research license can be opened using a commercial license and vice versa.
Note:
- This article discusses TEACHING and RESEARCH licenses. Databases created under these licenses are compatible with commercially licensed Abaqus/CAE.
- The Abaqus Student Edition is very different (renamed Abaqus Learning Edition beginning with Abaqus 2022). Student Edition/Learning Edition (LE0) is an (essentially) free, unlicensed product and databases are not compatible with licensed instances.
